Mm, peanuts! Whats better than sitting down and snapping peanut shells to retrieve those delicious peanuts inside? How about if youre having a peanut snack while you have a peanut painting party? Wouldnt that be fun? Adults might know other ways to fill the hours but kids will love the peanut painting fun! To tell you the truth, though, adults will love it too! The next time you buy a bag of peanuts in the shell get the kids together and have loads of creativity and laughter.
You dont need a lot of craft supplies to make the peanut pals. As a matter of fact, you dont need any craft supplies, just a few markers. You can make the peanut characters as simplistic or as detailed as you wish. Use things around the house or go all out and purchase craft supplies to help you make the most unique peanut pals ever.
For most peanut characters youll choose the slimmest end of the shell to create the head. The larger end of the peanut will become the body. All peanut characters should be made before cracking open the nut. After youve created the character you can then decide if youll eat the guys or just display them. There are any number of things that can become the base for the peanuts. A soda bottle lid, spice jar lid, small block of wood or even a flat piece of cardboard can be used to create a stand for one or several nut people. Glue the peanut onto the base before or after youve embellished it - whichever is easiest for you. Display the nuts individually or create a group of characters that stand together. Its really easy to use fine-tip markers to create faces for the people. Simply draw any type of eyes and a mouth. The characters are really cute if you use tiny little wiggly eyes from a craft store. Instead of painting on a mouth you can cut a tiny piece of yarn or felt to serve as the mouth. If you want to make arms for the peanuts cut short pieces of pipe cleaners. Cut short pieces of yarn to make hair or cut long pieces and give the character hair down to his or her feet. Cut one or two pieces of yarn and glue them in place to create a nearly bald peanut person. Make bangs, weird hair colors or other hairstyles from ordinary yarn. You can create other things besides hair with yarn, too. Tie a knot in one tiny strand and glue it on for a bow tie or hair bow. Wrap a piece of yarn around the "neck", glue on a tiny bead, and youve created a cool string tie. Pipe cleaners can be used to create all sorts of embellishments and accessories. Start at one end of a black pipe cleaner and begin rolling it. Keep rolling it until youve made a flat disc. Trim away the rest of the pipe cleaner. Glue the disc onto the head of the nut character. Now twist a half of a black pipe cleaner around a pencil. Slide it off and youve created a spiral. Smash the spiral somewhat so that you can no longer see between the spirals. Glue this tall piece on top of the black disc to finish creating a top hat. Make a colorful disc, glue on a bead or small silk flower, and you have a fabulous hat for a female peanut. Craft stores are full of teeny minis that you could use to embellish the nuts. Youll find small hats, purses, shoes, clothes and more that will help you create the perfect peanut characters. Or, use things from around your house like scraps of cloth to make clothes, bread tie wires to make belts or even tiny doll shoes from the kids toy box. Creating peanut pals is a lot of fun for young children at a birthday party or for parents to do with the kids on a boring night. Make peanut pals that resemble the people in your family or just make miniature monsters out of them. Give them away to people as whimsical gifts or set them on shelves and mantles around your own home. Its a fun and cheap craft thatll keep you laughing!
